Getting started

  Volume:

The master volume control is located on the toolbar immediately after the fast-forward button. It has a picture of a speaker. To use this control, hold the mouse button as you would when using a menu.

There are also volume controls for each track of a song. To use these controls, you must have a song loaded. Then, in the Editor window, switch to Player view. The volume controls are at the bottom of the window in a scrolling box.

  Speed:

If you wish to change the speed of a song currently playing, use the speed control, located to the right of the master volume control on the toolbar. Use it the same as the master volume control.

First MOD?

If you don't have much experience in creating MODs or need a little extra help, you should read the Creating a MOD topic.

Short-Cuts:

  • While in the Standard or Staff view of the Editor window, click where the current pattern or measure is displayed to goto another pattern or measure.
  • Read the keys section of the help system to learn keyboard short-cuts.
  • Use the new Auto-Save feature to have MacMod Pro save your songs at a regular time intervals.
  • Notes:

MacMod can open multiple songs into memory at a time. This allows you to play one song while you edit another. To avoid confusion, the mod currently being played is displayed in the Player view of the Editor window.

    Bookmarks

MacMod Pro allows the placement of up to 20 bookmarks within a song. Bookmarks work with both the digital editor as well as the staff editor.

    Adding a bookmark

To add a bookmark from a pattern window click on the button with the picture of a bookmark. To add a bookmark from the staff editor, click on the second button above the vertical scroll bar. You can also choose 'Place Bookmark' from the Edit menu. A dialog will appear asking for the text message you want the bookmark to hold as well as where in the music you want the bookmark's flag to appear.

    Notes:

  • You must have at least one letter in the bookmark text field to place the bookmark! If you don't want any text, but just want the bookmark to mark a place in a song, then type a space for the text message.

  • Be sure not to include any characters except letters or numbers in the 'Bookmark Text' field of the 'Place Bookmark' dialog. All other characters will not be displayed in the bookmark's popup menu.
  • Deleting a bookmark

To edit or remove a bookmark, click and hold on the bookmark's red flag in either editor. A popup menu will appear displaying the bookmark's text. Select this menu like you would a normal menu on the menu bar (ie: position the mouse over the menu and release the mouse button). The 'Place Bookmark' dialog box will be displayed holding the information of the selected bookmark. Here you can edit the text or position. To delete a bookmark simply delete all text in the 'Bookmark Text' field and choose 'OK'.

    Listing all bookmarks

You can get a listing of placed bookmarks by choosing 'Bookmark Listing' from the Edit menu or by clicking on the button beside the place bookmark button in a pattern window or by clicking on the bottom button above the vertical scroll bar in the staff editor. This listing will display the text of all bookmarks as well as their positions.

    Clipboards

MacMod Pro supports 8 different clipboards. This allows you to store many different items in memory at the same time. These clipboards are a unique design and are not compatible with the system clipboard (so items in MacMod Pro’s clipboards will not appear in the system clipboard).

To switch to a different clipboard click on the clipboard picture on the toolbar. The number on the clipboard picture is the current clipboard.

The clipboards can store, instruments, sequence slots, and portions of music. Instruments stored in a clipboard can be played through the Clipboard window.

A clipboard can be cleared to free extra memory by choosing 'Empty Clipboard' from the Edit menu.

    Song info

The Song Info window displays some basic information about the current song. The song's type and creator are displayed at the left. The popup menus beside each value allow you to select common types and creators from a built-in list. To the right, the song's length and signature are displayed. The signature is only useful to advanced musicians familiar with the MOD format. For that reason, it cannot be modified here.
